What is Digital Reality
Digital Reality is a bulletin board system: the kind of place people dialled into with a modem before the web, to read and write messages, trade files and play door games. It started on June 8, 2019 as a project to learn about those vintage systems, and today it runs on its own software, written from scratch.
Connect
Arrow keys and Enter, or a hotkey.
Best with a BBS terminal such as SyncTERM or NetRunner: they show the ANSI art in its own colours and font, and do Zmodem for files. Over SSH, any user name that is not yours (like new) brings you to the login screen; with your own user name you log in at once.
Gopher shows the bulletins, the oneliners and the public message and file areas, without logging in. Today's web browsers no longer speak it; use a Gopher client such as Lagrange or Lynx.
On the board
- Messages in the areas, and private mail
- Files with Zmodem or YMODEM, or in your web browser
- Doors, including Legend of the Red Dragon
- Chat with other callers, the oneliner wall, and bulletins
